Mukurwe-ini Wakulima Dairy Kenya

Introduction

Agriterra started supporting Mukurwe-ini Wakulima Dairy (MWD) in September 2012. At that time, MWD was selling its members’ unprocessed milk in bulk. Agriterra supported Mukurwe-ini Dairy in elaborating a business plan and accessing a loan from a local commercial bank. Agriterra provided advice and coaching in the trajectory towards processing. Since mid-2014, the processing plant is operational and MWD is selling pasteurised fresh milk.

Result

In 2015, MWD invested it in purchasing and installing a new yoghurt line. The line was installed in first quarter of 2016 and first yoghurt products of different flavours have hit the market. Average milk payment to members increased from 27 Kenyan Shillings in 2012 to 34 KSh in 2015.
