Phillip Morey

Phillip Morey grew up in a multi-cultural farming community in the Goulburn Valley (Victoria, Australia) where dairying and fruit growing were the main agriculture enterprises. He spent a year (1975) on his father’s apple and pear orchard (growing, packing, marketing and exporting) before leaving country life for Melbourne to study for his Bachelor of Business Degree (Monash University) and later a Diploma of Export.

Phillip worked initially as a market researcher for the largest sugar company (CSR Ltd) in Australia before he joined the State Department of Agriculture Victoria as a market development officer where he undertook a wide range of market research and development projects across many industries including horticulture, dairy, meat and grains. This work led him to overseas postings to the UK and Indonesia to research and identify business opportunities for the Victorian agricultural farmers and enterprises.

In 1998, he was appointed as Executive Director of the Victorian Government Business Office in Indonesia to identify and build trade and investment between the two regions. In 2002, he established his own marketing and management consultancy company (based in Jakarta) with a focus on the agribusiness sectors providing market research, business development, business matching and strategic advice to companies, industries and Governments. During this period, he undertook many development projects with a focus on value chain analysis and connecting ’farmers to markets’.

Phillip joined Agriterra in February 2020 as country representative. He lives now in Bandung (“the Paris of Java) and enjoys swimming (cooler than Jakarta), reading, travelling and meeting people.
