The training, which lasted 4 days, took place at VETA Hotel in Dodoma Region, Central Tanzania, from 7th to 10th of November 2017. Read the full story about a successful training, acquired knowledge and skilled coaches.
Overall, the training was conducted by Agriterra and facilitated by Mr. Johan Slot and Mr. Patrick Kagathi. Mr. Johan Slot, a farmer’s son, worked for ABN AMRO for 34 years in different positions and is focussing since the last 17 years on risk management. Currently, he is a freelance banker who works for Rabobank on a temporary basis. Mr. Johan Slot has done several assignments for Agriterra in Kenya, Tanzania, Indonesia, Uganda and most recently in the Philippines. His colleague Mr. Patrick Kagathi is a national business advisor in Kenya and has been working for Agriterra for three years now, with a lot of expertise in Farmer led SACCOs. With his background in Sacco Regulatory Authority in Kenya as well as his vast experience in working with Saccos in Kenya he was a valuable addition to the training. Additionally, Mr. Ibrahimu Harry Mwankanye, a Tanzanian National Business Advisor, supervised the full training. The whole training was adapted to the client’s level of understanding and translated from English to Swahili.

Furthermore, it was discussed that the draft dashboards established during the workshop need further development and a continuous update. To ensure the sustainability of the new knowledge it was agreed during the training that a dashboard will be sent to Agriterra every month, at least for the first 6 months after the training. The responsible business advisor for the extended follow-up is Mr. Ibrahimu Mwankanye, with assistance of Mr. Patrick Kagathi.
All participants are convinced that a dashboard can help to monitor the progress of their SACCOS. There was good interaction during the training sessions between all groups in regard to exchanging ideas. Moreover, board members also find it a good tool to quickly assess whether the SACCO is on track. The KPI dashboard offered a very good starting point as it gives a rapport to keep track of all the main KPIs within and also outside of the organisation.
To conclude, the KPI dashboard is a very powerful tool to organize and consolidate these KPIs for an easy understanding by the board and staff.
