Advice how to improve financial services

20-02-2018

Agripooler Dave Marcus went on a Cooperative Assessment mission to Ethiopia last week. It was his first mission and also his first trip to Africa. He was very enthusiastic about the mission, the Agripool concept, and working with our potential client Dire Multipurpose Farmers Union . Below you can read his  story and have a look at the video he made.

"I am proud to be a Rabobank banker, the global leader in food and agriculture financing. Rabobank wants to contribute to feeding the world on a more sustainable basis, by facilitating customers’ economic success and improving the vitality of communities. Rabobank’s role within the global food issue centres on access to financing, access to knowledge and access to networks. But only together can we grow a better world!

That is why I joined Agriterra, an agri NGO, for this 7-day journey to Ethiopia. Agriterra was founded by the Dutch agricultural sector. They provide expert advice to farmer organisations and cooperatives in developing countries, and strengthen them to fight hunger and poverty.

Rabobank and Agriterra share values when it comes down to strengthening farmers all over the world by offering knowledge and networks

I teamed up with Marco Streng and Peter de Koning to do a Cooperative Assessment. We assessed Dire Multipurpose Farmers Union to see whether Agriterra and the Union can work together. As a banker I focused on the SACCO division (Savings and credit) activities. I was thankful to give them some advice to improve their financial services."
